The terrain is rolling hills, and the water hazards come into play on twelve holes. Sand bunkers come into play on every hole. This course is known for its hard-to-read greens. The course has elevation changes and rolling terrain. Some water holes with streams crossing fairways and a couple of ponds in front of greens. This is a challenging, beautiful, very fair, and playable golf course.

Watch out for # 6, a 547-yard par-5 challenge, and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Navesink Golf Course is # 17, a 190 yard par-3.
